Where can I learn how to shape and draw eyes for anime characters?

Anybody have any good tips on how to draw anime eyes?
Tip for best answer: M$0.35
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

First, the angle of the upper lid is the key to how the rest of the eye will look. Eyes that go up in the corners tend to be mischievous or sly; eyes that go down are often gentle or sad.

I learned by watching lots of anime and reading lots of manga and then copying them on a new piece of paper. I don't mean tracing. Just find an eye that looks interesting to you and see if you can replicate it line by line.

A few things to keep in mind:

Anime irises are much larger than realistic irises.
Large eyes usually denote innocence or children; smaller or narrower eyes are used for adults and mature characters.
Tiny irises indicate intensity and focus, and are often used for bad guys.
If you don't draw pupils, the character will have a blank expression.

Here are some great, simple tutorials that should help you get started:

The last two have some nice step-by-step instructions that should help break it down for you. Experiment and have fun!

I found a cheap book for anime drawing at AC-Moore (the hobby store). I think it was about $8.00.
