How to cure a broken heart?

It was nobody's fault, we just didn't get on, but it stings and it still stings badly! How can I get over this broken relationship? Is there a nice video that would help along?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi @jonsigler... I'm neither a psychiatrist nor someone who knows a lot in psychology so I'd just share a couple of things based on my experiences in life. Just take this as a friendly advice. ;)

Mending a broken heart is never easy. I can still remember before that it took me years before I finally forgot someone completely (and that’s just somehow a puppy love). I don’t know if there’s such video for you to watch to help along. :( Right now, the only thing that would help you is yourself.

You’re the only one who can start anew and begin a new chapter in your life. Yes you can cry, you can shout to pour all the pain and sadness contained in you but it depends on you on when you should stop and move on. Sometimes, because of so much pain we’re feeling, we’re forgetting that we still have lives to live. So just give yourself a little time to be sad and then move on. I know it’s not going to be easy, but it depends on you now if you’d still cry over the past and remain broken hearted or pick yourself up together and move on. In the right time, you’ll be able to tell yourself that you finally got through it and maybe (just maybe) you’ll be ready to give love another chance.

I believe that time heals all wounds so and I know, you’ll be able to move on someday.

There is no definite way to cure a broken heart. However, there are several ways in which you can start the healing process.

First, you will need to release your thoughts and feelings. Be open about your feelings with a few close friends. Having support means all the world when healing a broken heart. Spend time with your close friends and keep your mind off of your break-up. Do the things that you would normally find enjoyable with your friends; whether it's a movie and wine night or an evening out on the town, keep yourself busy with your friends.

Then, start taking care of yourself. You're going through a stressful time but it doesn't mean you should neglect yourself. Eat well and work out. Exercise has been known to alleviate stress so go to the gym. If you're not used to exercising regularly, start small by walking or taking a yoga class.

Whatever you do, make sure to allow yourself time to heal. It won't be overnight and some evenings will be harder than others, but keep at it and you'll be well on your way to heal a broken heart.

Hi there, @jonsigler!

I am not an expert when it comes to giving counseling to people who are broken-hearted but I believe in the adage that time heals all wounds. I don't know if you really are a guy (as your avatar suggests) but if you are, I tell you that crying is not a sign of weakness. You cry until you have no more tears to shed. When that happens, it means you are ready to move on. Do not confine yourself. See beautiful places and meet people. Hang out with friends and get busier with work. Life is too short to spend in things that are not working anymore for you. It’s hard but you should try. You have the internet you can meet a lot of people online. Get as many girlfriends and boyfriends in there, you know it’s not serious but at least you are inspired by them. Who knows you will meet the one who’s really right for you? Anyway, since I am not an expert, here’s a very helpful video for you:

Hi. I'd like to tell you, Jon, that there is a shortcut to curing a broken heart, but I'm afraid there isn't. Often when we've been hurt, we try to "forget", but you can't forget someone you've loved. Not if your love was real. You have to find a way to make peace with it. Ask yourself: do you regret it? If you could undo the past, would you have preferred to never meet the person you fell in love with? I bet the answer is no, because even though you were hurt, this person brought a blessing into your life.

If it wasn't for this relationship, you wouldn't have known how deeply you can feel, and how strong you can be. The pain you are feeling maybe the worst pain there is, and it takes a strong person to withstand it. There is a Jewish saying: "God is closest to those with broken hearts." I believe that. I hope you do too. Good luck to you Jon, may the time heal your heart, and may you remain close to God.
