A point of interest - you may also consider starting a page also. Pages are easier to administrate and people can "like" your page and join it with ease. Facebook members are limited in the number of groups they can join. Pages are also limited, but people can join more pages than groups and are more likely to like your page than join a group. That has been my experience - I run two pages on Facebook but no groups and it has been a positive experience.
