How to control weeds naturally?

My friend just started her organic vegetable garden. She planted vegetables and some herbs that she mostly needed so that she won't have to buy them anymore. She noticed that there are several weeds that grow in her garden. She tried pulling them off one by one but they continue to grow the following day. How can she stop them? Is there a natural way to prevent these weeds from growing in her garden?

For a vegetable garden I would recommend Square Foot Gardening. http://www.squarefootgardening.com
With this method weeds are rare and easy to remove if you do get any. That is all I do in my vegetable garden.
Corn gluten meal prevents seeds from growing but it will also prevent vegetable seeds from growing. So, don't use it anywhere that you will be planting seeds. Corn gluten meal is fine to use around plants.
Here are some other garden tips including weed control: http://www.herb-arium.com/gardencaretips.htm

When you plant the garden spread out newspapers or paper grocery bags around the plants and then cover them with dirt or mulch. These will kill the grass and weeds and they won't be able to grow through the paper.
She should be able to use this technique even now after the plants have already come up. The paper feeds the soil as it decays so it serves two purposes.

If you pull weeds you have to make sure to remove the roots. Hoeing on a warm, dry day helps. To prevent weeds from germinating you can cover the ground with a layer of mulch. That is basically any organic material you have. You can for example use grass clippings if the don't contain seed yet.
