How to change your mouses center click?

I cut and paste items into the search box in my browser all the time. But to run the search I have to hit the enter key. Is there a way to change my center click to a return key. If I can do it within windows (Vista, 7) that be great. Even if it required a registry fix. But if not a simply safe application would be great too. (By safe I mean one spoken about on other sites; or on download.com or something)

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It may be possible but you neglected to include a very important piece of information. What mouse you are using. I am using windows 7 and double checked to make sure that there is no default way to change the mouse button functions within the windows environment. Some mouse/trackball models include software that will allow you to change what your buttons do. I use the Logitech Cordless Trackman Wheel.

and the software available for that can be downloaded on the Company's website. In fact this software works for multiple Logitech products at the same time. There is an option for setting any of the buttons to a "keystroke". the application stays active in the system tray and you right click on the icon and select "Mouse and Keyboard Settings" then select the product you are working with from the pulldown( this should show all Logitech products you have installed on your system. Then you select what key you want to change and then the function you want it to perform. If you are using another manufacturer's mouse then check their website for a possible solution. If you make a comment and let me know what brand and model of mouse you are using i will see if I can find anything to help you.

Good Questions. The OS I mentioned. The mice I use are all microsoft mice. I as a rule hate the idea of installing mice specific software. So no matter what I use I typically use the default PnP Microsoft drivers. If I can configure those that's what I want. If not then your suggestions isn't a bad one if I can get away with it for $20 or so. To be honest there's got to be a lifehacker article out there or something that talks about this. I'd hope if not your suggestion is do-able. Whether there is a specific additive software for the MS mice I don't know.

Oh yes and I didn't find any other options, the forums i checked all suggested manufacturers software and none of the the legitimate hacker sites came up in any of my searches. I don't check the ones like warez because as often as not you get a virus or a Trojan from them.

I checked the microsoft site knowledge base and also went into the mouse options on windows 7 which are essentially the same as Vista and cant find anything to change the button functions, closest i came was a way to swap left and right buttons but not to let it act as a key.

Microsoft uses Intellipoint for mice and Intelletype for keyboard and While I think you can customize mouse button tasks I am not sure but here are some links for the software etc.
