These are the steps you should do to become a marine surveyor:

2. Write or contact the National Association of Marine surveyor about apprentice membership. NAMS certifies marine surveyors and offers continuing education.
3. Be sure to complete the screening and ethics examination to be able to start your tenure as apprentice member of the NAMS for one year.
3. After you have completed the marine survey engagements for an apprentice member become an associate member of the NAMS.
4. Once you fulfill the requirements for an associate member of NAMS you can move up to a CMS status. Once you reach this you're a professional marine surveyor with an adequate amount of experience in the field.
