How to avoid the opening of the "download" windows in firefox?

Everytime you start a download in firefox the download windows appears. Can it be turned off? Sometimes it's really annoying...
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes, and quite easily. Go to the 'Tools', 'options' tab. In the 'Main' tab, you find the 'show the download window'. Unselect that option, and the downloads window is gone.

You can turn this off using a hidden setting.

Enter the term about:config in the location bar (where you normally type website addresses).

Firefox will give you a warning that you could damage the Firefox installation if you continue, provided you only do what's written below you'll be OK. So just tick yes i'll be careful.

Search for the preference
browser.download.manager.showAlertOnComplete.
Modify the value to false.

Shouldn't see the download anymore.
