How sick do you have to be before you'll call in?

I rarely call in sick, but right now I feel like if I call in (before I get really sick) then I will be less likely to call in later and get to feeling better sooner.

I have a very sore throat and I work part-time in retail (so I need my voice).

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I call in sick when I'm so ill that I'm unable to work and if I'm at the stage of an illness when I could infect my co-workers.

I agree that it's much better to call in sick earlier -- you take off less time, and you won't get your co-workers sick, so that they have to take time off.

I always call in sick if I have a fever or if I'm throwing up or if I have a sore throat because I don't want to get other people sick.

Just imagine if you were a customer or coworker of yours and you came in in the condition you were in. Would you think, gross, that person is coughing and sneezing and blowing their nose and looks sick, I don't want to be around this person, then you should stay home.

Plus, resting helps you recover faster.

I thought your answer was good, but I didn't select it as the best because the link you listed was somewhat unrelated to your answer.
