How picky should I be about my food?

I keep hearing about how organic food is better, don't eat high fructose corn syrup, eat vegan, eat local, eat free range... at what point does all of it become overkill? Or does it? Do I even dare step into another Burger King?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The problem with food and nutrition is it's an ever changing conglomeration of total bullcrap. There used to be a food square, now it's a pyramid. You used to NOT eat many eggs, now you can. You should drink a lot of milk, you shouldn't drink milk at all! The information on everything is so conflicting, you pretty much have to research every single thing you eat and that gets very annoying.

Personally, I do buy some organic vegetables but really only the ones that could be exposed to pesticides that aren't really regulated. Those strawberries from Bolivia sure look good but what's on them? I don't know...Stuff like that I might go with an organic version. Oranges on the other hand have protection (the peel) so I buy them for taste only. Wal-Mart oranges taste like crap, Sunkist oranges are very good.

You can always ask a worker in a store but odds are they don't know what they're talking about. 100% of the employees I worked with at a local grocery store had no idea what "organic" actually meant and I saw every produce employee tell customers random stuff so they'd just buy it and go away. Hippie stores have more knowledgeable employees but then again, they are biased against things like large corporations (Sunkist) and all kinds of other stuff.

I buy meat at a butcher shop instead of a chain store so I don't worry about that so much. It comes from this state somewhere I assume and is delicious.

At the same time, you only live once. Do you want to live an extra 3 years at the end of your life just because you spent 10 years eating birdseed or give up that 3 years for the occasional bacon and cheese loaded chunk of heaven?

Sorry, not very helpful after reading that again huh...

Personally, I am not picky when it comes to food. I eat almost everything that appeals to my taste as long as I know how it has been cooked. As of this moment, I avoid food that are microwave-cooked/heated. I've known that it would cause abnormality in blood so I just avoid it. I must admit that I do eat fatty, salty and rich in sugar foods but I just don't overeat them. Thanks that my body seems to have its own way of telling me like 'hey, you don't need that anymore!' And I don't grow thick even though I love to eat and I don't need to work out. But still, I just make it a requirement to have physical activities because it helps me stay fit and flexible. I always listen to my body.
