How old is Harvard?

When was Harvard first established?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Named after its first benefactor, John Harvard, Harvard University is the oldest institute of higher education in the United States. It was founded in 1636 by the Massachusetts Legislature, making it 374 years old. It is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is a member of the Ivy League.

The university is made up of ten separate academic units and has campuses spread out all over the Boston metropolitan area. Harvard’s main campus takes up 210 acres and is centered on the Harvard Yard in Cambridge.

Harvard possesses the greatest financial endowment of any other school in the world, which, as of September 2009, stood at $25.6 billion. Many notable people have Harvard as their alma mater, including eight United States presidents and 62 living billionaires.

The sports teams affiliated with Harvard are called the Harvard Crimson.

Harvard, rkiper, is 374 years old! It was first established in 1636. Named after John Harvard, a minister from Charleston, Harvard has accumulated more than 323,000 alumni in the last several hundred years. The college’s first benefactor, John Harvard left his library and half his estate to the college.

More of Harvard’s history can be found in the Harvard University Archives (HUA). The archives are located in the Pusey Library in Harvard Yard. This is where Harvard’s historical records are preserved for education and research.

Harvard currently educates approximately 21,000 students (both undergrad and graduate students). Undergraduate tuition is currently $38.416 and Harvard has 4,979 acres of real estate. Their library is comprised of 16.2 million volumes. Their motto is Veritas, which is Latin for truth, and their color is crimson.
