How often should one wash a wig?

I've bought a wig and I wondered how often should I wash it? Can I use normal hair shampoo or should I use something else?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Well, is it a real hair wig, or a synthetic hair wig? They are different, require different products, and care.

Lets start with Synthetic hair wigs. There is special products used to help take care of it. I have heard from people I know who wear wigs for stage that Beautimark wig care kit is a great tool to help keep your hair clean, and to protect it. As well as revitalize. Synthetic wigs require minimal upkeep. When you go to shampoo, you need to make sure that the shampoos, conditioners, hair styling products and accessories are made specifically for synthetic wigs. After shampooing and conditioning, you should rinse the wig in cold water. Use a soft towel and "blot" dry. Let it dry over night naturally on a wig stand.

For real hair wigs, you can use Beautimark Pure Care System. Its for human hair and are Sulfate-free to protect the color. Human hair wigs have to be shampooed, dried, styled and conditioned just like natural hair. Special products should also be used on human hair wigs, because the human hair has been processed several times, and is more vulnerable to damage. Shampoos that are made for processed hair can be used, but you should use products that are specifically made for human hair wigs to protect what you paid so much for.

If you are unsure, you can always go to the store where you bought your wig from and ask an expert.
