Should I get my hair trimmed every six weeks or so? What is the time frame for getting a new haircut?

How long you should wait between hair cuts varies depending on your hair’s style.

If your hair is long, you can often go longer in between visits than someone who has shorter hair. Shorter hair tends to lose its shape much more easily as it grows out, resulting in the need to have it trimmed more often.

If you take great care of your hair, you can often buy a few more weeks out of your hair cut. Be sure to be gentle when you style your hair, and deep condition it about once per week.

Check your hair frequently for split ends. A split end will look like a fork at the bottom of the hair. If you notice more than a few splits, it’s probably time for a trim.

If you normally have your hair cut every six weeks and that seems to be okay to maintain your style then I would stick with that period.

As explained in the other answers, your hair grows about half an inch a month, so it really depends on your hairstyle if this amount of growth is going to spoil the look or not.

Every six weeks should be enough to get rid of any pesky split ends, these will spoil the look of any hairstyle. Even if you are trying to grow your hair, it is still a good idea to have it cut regularly, if the ends become dry, they can break off shorter than if they have been cut.

Make sure you regularly condition your hair, especially the ends, this will help prevent splits and breakages.

You should get your hair cut or trimmed about every six weeks, although women can go much longer than men can in between hair cuts. It really is a personal decision, and if you plan to go a couple of months or more in between visits to the salon for a trim, take this into account when choosing your hairstyle. Some hairstyles look very bad when not frequently maintained, while others are just fine. If you get your hair cut relatively short, you can probably go every two months to get a trim.

Hair on average grows about 1/2 inch a month, or six inches per year. The more you style your hair, the more damage it can become. Therefore, women who daily blow dry their hair and straighten it with a straightener or use a hair curling iron on it may develop split ends or damaged hair. In this case, this extra heat styling may require more frequent hair trims in order to rid the person of split ends. Split ends are when one strand of hair has two or three or more ends as opposed to the one end it is supposed to have. Split ends on hair look damaged and make hair look unkempt and frizzy, so that is the reason you would want to have those cut off.
