How often should I check my credit report?
Is it a good idea to check it often? Is there one place online I can check it? Is freecreditreport.com a scam? Is annualcreditreport.com secure?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It is recommended that we check our scores at least once a year. However, I usually check my scores every few months so that I’m always aware of the info being reported to the credit bureaus. I remember a few years ago there was a negative item on my credit report that I had no knowledge about.
It was a medical bill that I thought had been paid but I guess that was not the case. It just so happens that I had just begin to check my credit report at the time the account was bought to my attention. I paid the bill and the negative info was removed and the account shows a paid in full instead of collections.
While one time a year may work for some people, I like to be in the know about my background as much as I can and checking it more frequently allows me to correct any inaccurate information sooner rather than later.
