How much would someone expect to pay for breast reduction surgery. Would insurance cover it?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

On average, a breast reduction will be higher than breast augmentation. Usually that is because the higher costs will also cover follow up visits and corrective proceedures.

The average costs, according to American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, is $5400.

Lisa is correct about the insurance. If the reduction is prescribed by the doctor, then insurance can be used.

I have a friend that recently had one done.

The insurance will pay if it is deemed a health issue. If you are having issues with back pain and so on.
I believe in some cases it is concidered cosmetic and insurance will not pay. You have to have good documentation from your doctor that it is a health concern.
The cost will vary from state to state and even from hospital to hospital. You really need to contact your own insurance and hospital to get all the financial calculations.
