How much will the iPad cost?

Tip for best answer: M$4.42
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Considering that no one really knows for sure what the iPad will be, it's hard to say how much it will cost. There is a lot of speculation out there to both, but it looks like a device that will try to merge all the functions of the iPod (and possibly iPhone) with the Kindle and even have some capabilities of some netbooks.

I read an interesting article here: http://samj.net/2009/03/crystal-ball-apples-599-ipad-netbook.html

The writer not only proposes a ballpark cost of $599, but also delves into all the iPad's possible functions and usability. It's all speculative but fun to think about what Apple's next device might be.

According to this Fox News article from August 2009 they are likely to sell between $500 and $700

Gene Munster, a highly respected senior research analyst at the investment firm Piper Jaffray, says representatives of an Asian component manufacturer told him that they had received orders from Apple for parts to build a tablet computer — a project code-named "Touch."

The tablet, Munster says, would most likely sell for between $500 and $700, have a 10-inch touch screen, and use an operating system similar to that of the iPhone.

While much is speculation until an official announcement is made, according to ''PCMag'', the iPad will likely retail for $699, but could see significant discounts of $200 or more when a buyer signs a contract with a carrier.
