How much time does it take you to get ready to leave the house?

My mom is a nurse. She sometimes gets last minute calls to come in and cover hospital shifts. She can be ready to leave the house--including a shower--in 10 minutes flat! It takes me 45 minutes or so. I have to have a shower and eat a hot breakfast or I am useless in an hour. A lady at our church was there, dressed and presentable, after her alarm didn't go off and she only had 15 minutes to get ready. How long does it take you? Would you skip the shower if you slept in?

The length of time it takes me to get ready depends solely on where I'm going and what I'll be doing. Since I work from home now, the prep time is greatly reduced - no need to pick the "perfect" outfit and make myself totally presentable to the world. I do still get up and shower, dress, etc. - but I don't put as much time into the details. I'd say from up to at the desk, it takes me about 10-15 minutes.

For going out, I definitely give myself a little longer - my hair has to try (takes forever, even with the blow dryer) and most of the time I'll put on a little makeup. Of course I'll pick an outfit - there are days when I readily admit I stand in that closet for WAY longer than I should thinking. I never know when that will hit, either. Some days it's easy and some days...well, it's just total indecision. I blame hormones :) I'd say for going out my "get ready" time is between 40 minutes to an hour (the hour includes hormonal indecision madness).

And Cherise, I have GOT to have a shower before I work at home or go out. If I overslept I'd at least leap into icy water quickly just to jump start my foggy brain. In a rush I have definitely rolled down my car window and let my hair air-dry. Very, very scary sight!

If I'm already awake, I've been known to shower (5 minutes), get my clothes (30 seconds) AND makeup (2 minutes) on, do my hair (5 minutes - would be much quicker i it was thinner and didn't need to dry) throw some stuff in a bag, and be out the door in about 15 minutes. I actually do this pretty often when going out with friends after finishing badminton practice or a Guide shift.

In the mornings before going to school, it takes me about 25-30 minutes - however, part of my routine is to actually take a few minutes to wake up, check my email and other notifications, which takes a few minutes, and I also have to shut down and pack up my laptop and cables for school. I also have to walk to the bus which is about 4 minutes away. I never make hot breakfast - it's hard to keep fresh food when it's just me, as it often goes bad and ends up being a waste - it's usually cheaper to just grab a 2 dollar breakfast at the school.

When I was much younger and living at my parents house, it took me about an hour - with thick hair and one of those rain shower heads, it took me 20 minutes MINIMUM to shower, and that was just to get the shampoo out of my hair. Then I had to sit and wait at the table while my mom asked me what I wanted and made me breakfast - she wouldn't just make me something or get it ready while I was showering, or allow me to make it myself. This usually took 30 minutes (even just toast - HUGE procrastinator). I wasn't allowed to have an alarm clock ("it's annoying") and my mom would wake me up each morning, but always 20-30 minutes after the time I asked her to. I was late for school every. single. day. but I wasn't allowed to leave until I'd showered and ate.

I rarely skip a shower unless I absolutely have to. The only 3 times I remember skipping a shower before leaving the house in the last 3 years - once I slept in and almost missed an exam (got there 5 minutes after it started) - I literally got up and grabbed my laptop and ran for the door. Once was during a home badminton tournament - my team had went out downtown the night before, and I slept through my alarm clock - I woke up when my teammate called me and told me my game was called and I was on the court in 15 minutes. Needless to say, I lost the game. The other time was at an away badminton tournament - we always stay in hotels for several nights with 2 or 3 people sharing a room. I was rooming with a girl who takes a notoriously long time to get ready - 2 hours in the bathroom to shower and do her hair and make up. Since she was getting up so (3 hours) early I though I'd take the bathroom second so I could get a little more sleep, but she ended up not being done until AFTER we were supposed to leave, and I just couldn't shower or we'd miss our court times. I learned after that that when I roomed with her, I needed to get the bathroom first, no matter how early she got up - which was up to 4 hours sometimes and she's never to this day been on time. I don't understand how it can take 2 hours to blow dry your hair.

If I really want to take a long time to do my hair and makeup - 45 minutes is sufficient!

I have a morning routine that takes about two hours. I wake up at 5:30, hit the snooze button until about 5:45, and either go for a walk/jog or head over to the gym for a half an hour (6:00 - 6:30). Then I come back, take a shower (6:45 - 7:00), blow-dry my hair (7:00 - 7:05), get dressed (7:05 - 7:07), and eat breakfast while surfing the net until I leave for work at 7:40 or so.

If it's a day where I don't exercise, I just forgo showering. I can shower about every other day without issues, if exercise isn't in the picture. So I can get up, get dressed and eat breakfast in about ten minutes.

We used to have a timer when I was a kid, so our showers never went longer than ten minutes (my sister would take 20min showers, and my parents were trying to prevent a huge water bill), but I really don't know if I could pare my washing down to five minutes or less... Maybe, if I was a speed demon, but it wouldn't be fun - or thorough.

My parents did that too, for a couple years! 12 minutes and they cut off the hot water from the water heater on me.. they didn't understand it takes longer than that for my hair to get de-soapy alone!

If I don't have to take a shower I can wash up and get dressed and be out of the house in three minutes. If I am going suit and tie and shower I need a half hour.

I am with Gina on this one. I would rather take a shower before going somewhere, but I could care less if I don't have time. I can get out the door in 10 minutes or less. The one thing I must do, is brush my teeth. I can't stand leaving the house without brushing my teeth. I've been like this since childhood. However, I have a bad habit of staying up later than I should, so of course I am always running late in the morning time.

If it is something very important, like a meeting a school, a dinner or date, I take my time getting ready. I begin much earlier and make arrangements ahead of time. However, as long as everything goes smoothly, I can still be out the door in less than an hour, usually about 30 minutes. The one exception to this is when I have gain a couple of pounds or I am bloated. I get irritated as I try on everything in my entire wardrobe, fussing about how huge I am.

If I just need to get my son to school, be at work, go to the store, etc... I can be out and about in 10 minutes or less.

If I have to go somewhere quickly in an emergency, I can be ready in five minutes. It doesn't take long to throw on some clothes and leave the house.

If I am getting ready to go to dinner or another appointment and I have already been awake, then I take my time a little more, shave, dress and am out the door in about fifteen minutes.

When I get up in the morning and have to go somewhere, perhaps to see one of my students, then it takes a bit longer. By the time I wake up, get dressed, shave and get something to eat, it will be about thirty minutes before I am out the door.

I always save time by showering at night before bed. I don't get dirty while sleeping, so I don't need that shower to be clean in the morning or to wake me up.

"I don't get dirty while sleeping" - I don't know about you, but I always sweat like crazy when I sleep. I wake up disgusting in the morning.

Since I work from home, I am not getting ready to leave the house everyday, but I will answer how long it takes me to leave the house to go into public.

Typically I could really care less if I take a shower (scary, I know.) the older I become the less and less I seem to care of what others think.

I would say I could be out the door in ten minutes.

If it is date night, that is a different story. My spouse and I have date night atleast once a month. I like to take my time and take a shower, listen to music, do my hair. The entire ordeal can take anywhere from an hour up to 2 hours.

As much as I enjoy going out on date night, I love getting ready for date night almost as much!

Most often, my husband doesn't ask me, lol. But it depends on the situation. If it’s a very important appointment that I should not miss then I would take a shower for even less than ten minutes, that fast! And if I thought that I’d need to eat or have something to stay alive, I’d spend maybe up to ten minutes on hot cereal drink or eat a little and on brushing teeth. To change clothes, I think five minutes is good plus ten minutes on the makeup, hair, footwear & some accessories, lol. So that’s over a half hour or could be less sometimes. But if I still got more time, I can spend more time in front of the mirror checking from front and back and from head to feet, lol. It seems to become my habit to do it every time. I think that’s normal for most girls/ladies.

This is probably not a fair question for a guy because we can get ready a lot faster than the ladies because we don’t have as much to worry about with makeup, hair etc. I am usually up at the crack at dawn (4:30am) and I am able to shower, brush my teeth, and can be fully dressed cologne and all in less than half an hour.

I have been getting up early for a majority of my working life so being able to get ready in a short amount of time is kind of like second nature to me. However, I usually give myself more than ample time in case something unexpected does happen so I can make adjustments on the fly if necessary.

It really depends on where I’m going and who I’m going with to determine how long it takes for me to get ready. If I just have to run some errands around town, it will take me only about 10 minutes to get ready and go. I usually have to make sure the dogs go out and do their thing, change clothes, put on some shoes and off I go. Personally, I really don’t care what people think of what I look like. Most of the time I never run into anyone I know anyway so who cares?

If I am going out to meet someone, go out to eat with a friend, or to go over a friend’s house, I do take more time to get ready. I’ll jump in the shower; dry myself and my hair, put on some clean clothes and some shoes, let the dogs out and back in, and then leave. I haven’t worn makeup for over ten years back when I used to work in an office. Usually that will take me at least an hour and that’s even if I’m in a hurry. I guess I’m just pokey compared to everybody else. :-)
