How much should I charge for tech support?

I want to start my own small business in the evening and on weekends (after my day job) for PC tech support. There has to be a need for this — I help enough friends out with their PC problems. Options for home based PCs are quite limited here. Geek Squad charges outrageous prices. I am not sure what I will charge but I plan on having a minimum charge and then only charge for actual work done. I am looking for suggestions for lots of things. Namely, rates, liability, insurance, equipment needed, waiver forms, tax issues, incorporation, local paper advertising, web site, etc. This is my first venture into small business. Thanks.
Tip for best answer: M$0.50
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I help a lot of people with computer stuff (mainly just cleaning the computer up) and its not hard at all. 90% of the stuff is just running a virus scan. You would be better off charging per job (say clean your computer up for $20) if its something like hard ware (replacing a hard drive ect ect) Charge them $10/hr miniumum of 2 hours + cost of parts then buy the stuff off ebay then mark it up by 10%.

Should work out pretty nice and if you keep your prices low, you will get a lot more customers.

Stating that GeekSquad (I am sure every new born knows who they are) charge $50 to clean a computer ($100 in store price) and the biggest BULLSH*T part is that they charge $150 just to set your computer up....I have been saying this for a while....man I am in the WRONG job.
