How much is too much for a pair of shoes for you?

I've been watching the Sex and City DVD and couldn't help but wonder about the price of the shoes Carrie Bradshaw bought. For me $ 35 is the limit of how much I am willing to spend for a pair of shoes, not $400 - $ 1000! Which is more than my salary for a month! How about you? What is your limit to spend on a pair of shoes?

Actually, buying a pair of shoes every month is too much for me already. It is because I don't feel I need to. I don't work in an office. I work at home and so I don't travel a lot. So, my shoes take longer to wear out. But if I were working in an office, I think I would spend only up to $25. But, there are a lot offered in clearance sale so, I could go for even less than $10.

In our recent economy, we should spend wisely.

I actually loathe wearing shoes and socks.. I'd go barefoot if I could and normally do. I buy shoes probably once every 2 years and have never spent more than 5 dollars.. I find discount bins.. lol I'm horribly cheap with things I don't like... so you top 30 bucks and I'm not going anywhere near them. I may go as high as 25 if they were comfortable but even over that is pushing it.

I used to love watching “Sex and the City” when the episodes were first released on DVD and I, too, was mind blown by how much money some of the girls on the show (especially Carrie) loved to spend on shoes. The gorgeous Manolo Blahnik’s in your photo may be a nice deviation from your everyday sandal strutting down the sidewalk, but are hardly reason enough to spend your life’s savings on. Many of these unique strappy sandals are extreme samples that resemble items best reserved for fashion shows and that would sometimes be hard to integrate into daily activities and outfits. For me $ 500 to $ 1000 per pair of shoes is simply outrageous and it would never cross my mind to pay this much for any article of clothing. Personally, my spending limit for any one pair of shoes lies somewhere between $50 and $120. I think my upper limit would be the absolute most I would ever consider paying for one pair of shoes or boots, and the only time that I recently even considered investing even close that amount ($85) was when I found a pair of below zero temperature winter boots that would have allowed me to keep warm feet while out and about in sub-zero temperature weather. However, in the end I was unable to spend this much money and to this day I am still trying to get by with my non-waterproof boots from 2 years ago and hoping that winter will soon come to an end.

For less than 1/10 or 1/20 of Blahnik's price I can get gorgeous shoes from Charles and Keith, which is my favorite brand of shoes!

I buy my shoes new (unlike my clothes, for those of you who know me). I normally pay about $12 per pair at Target, Wal-Mart, or Payless Shoe Source. A pair of shoes usually lasts me about a year. I usually buy a brown pair and a black pair in the fall, and a pair of sandals in the early summer. I guess I might pay up to $50 for a pair of supportive athletic shoes or snow boots or something. There is no way though that I would pay even close to $400 for a pair of shoes, let alone $1000!

I haven't spent more than $200. I've come close to spending more, but I haven't found a pair I love enough to justify it. Did you see the episode of Sex and the City where Carrie realizes she would have had the money for a down payment on a house if she didn't buy her shoe collection? Amazing shoes *are* amazing, but you still have to put your priorities in order.

I like to spend less than $40,00 for a pair. I try to find good shoes marked down. Since I live in the desert I can get away with sandals for most of the year.

Really? What if you found a really nice pair for $42,000. Do you have any links for $40,000 shoes?

hahahah I agree with both bootz and dtrivera. I can't believe how much the characters spent on shoes without blinking and I have no interest in buying those kinds of shoes either. I remember the one episode where Carrie went to a baby shower where she had to take off her shoes and someone took them. They were some kind of $500 shoes but the show as actually about how single people get ripped off at gift giving time cause married people and people with kids have more opportunities to throw parties where they get gifts. So anyway, I was really like, ummm why would you wear shoes worth that much and then voluntarily take them off and not carry them with you all night. But then the plot of the show would have been different.

I also do not like, nor do I really have a reason, to wear shoes like that anymore. When I was working retail, I wore comfortable shoes that I could stand up in all day. When I was teaching, I was still standing for large sections of the day and also wore similar shoes. By that time though my style was set to "comfort" and not "sheik" on the meter.

That all being said, I usually limit myself to $50 for shoes. On the rarest of rare occasions, I have spent a bit more. I have a pair of merrell clogs that cost $90 and they are simply the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned and really need to get another pair. That extravagance is very very rare though.

I have zero interest in owning those types of shoes, and zero interest in spending that kind of money on them.

The shoes I wear most are Birkenstocks. I don't buy a new pair very often--they are of good quality, they are extremely comfortable, and they last a long time-- so the $75 to $150 I typically spend is very much worth it to me.

My feet are so happy and healthy in them that I'd probably go as high as $200 per pair before I'd reconsider and start looking at other shoes.

As the web site says, these shoes are made with "a deep heel cup to ensure proper weight distribution and foot alignment" as well as a "spacious toe box that gives your toes room to move". I love the footbeds and very much appreciate the arch support.
