How much is spent on consumer invitations annually in the USA?

weddings alone are a $2.2 billion biz for invites, response cards, save date, rehearsal dinner and thank you. Adding birthday, holiday parties, dinner parties, etc. what is total size of invitation market. please site sources.
Tip for best answer: M$50.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

1. "In 2006 the market for greeting cards climbed to over $10 billion."

http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Unity-Marketing-790577.html

2. "According to Hallmark estimates, the greeting card industry represents over $7 billion in retail sales, with some 6.5 billion units purchased by consumers in 2007. This estimate includes individual and packaged everyday and seasonal cards."

At Hallmark's website they listed a telephone number for a spokesperson. 816-274-4873. You can probably call and get some answers. Usually PR folks are really nice about that kind of stuff.

3. "Americans exchange 7 billion greeting cards every year."

Good luck!

This isn't the answer you wanted, I'm sure, but you can buy what looks like a very comprehensive market report on the Greeting Card market in the US online for $650.

If by invitations you mean Greeting Cards too, here are some money figures from the Greeting Card Association.

"Americans purchase 7 billion greeting cards every year. Annual retail sales
of greeting cards are estimated at more than $7.5 billion."

Breaking it down to Invitations probably is going to be near on impossible.
This Business week article about online Invitation systems quotes the 10+ Billion dollar market for Party Supplies. The fact that they don't have just the invitation figure suggests that the figure isn't available.

The same article suggests evite would send evites to 30 million people in December 2007.

Closest I could get without paying some outrageous amount for some report "which must be why someone is paying $50 here" is:

"The Greeting Card Association (GCA) is the U.S.-based trade organization representing greeting card and stationery publishers, as well as suppliers to the industry.

GCA’s members account for approximately 95 percent of the 7 billion greeting cards sold in the U.S. every year, accounting for more than $7.5 billion in annual retail sales."
