How much does the NFL hurt its image by allowing the Michael Vick to play?

Tip for best answer: M$0.37
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are people for whom animal cruelty is a core issue, and no amount of prison time or restitution will ever be sufficient to console them for Vick's crime. For NFL fans that fall into this category, it's a serious issue that may result in them taking some action in protest of Vick's reinstatement. That action could fall within a wide range, however. It could be as simple as refusing to watch any Philadelphia games while Vick remains on the roster to completely abandoning the NFL. Probable impact to the financial status of the league is minimal. Many will probably tune in to Philly games in the hopes that Vick gets hurt. It's probably a financial wash.

I consider myself a serious dog lover, and would never allow Vick to lay a hand on my animals. Of any sort. Ever. However, he has paid his "debt to society", and this is the man's job skill. I'll not be his fan, but I won't deny him the opportunity to earn a living, either. I think any image problem is now the property of the Eagles, but If Reid and his organization are willing to risk their organizational reputation and money on Vick, it's theirs to take.

Allowing Michael Vick to play will not hurt the NFL's image so much as clarify their priorities to that small group of fans that might not already know that they are in it for the money and are not interested in morals or role model standards, or even what the average fan thinks.

It is impossible to list even the currently active players who have been convicted of crimes like domestic abuse, drug and weapons charges, drinking and driving, sexual crimes. The NFL has no problem filling their rosters with low life criminals that couldn't get jobs at a local McDonalds with their records. So let's not pretend that the NFL has an image to protect.

Think of this, most of us don't know a single person who has been convicted of some of these crimes, yet NFL rosters are JAM PACKED with these losers.

Here are a couple of All-Criminal teams:

Among respectable people, the NFL does not hurt it's image at all. There are those that may see the image as tarnished, but I wouldn't respect their opinion.

I doubt very little since Vick has not been in the news for doing anything wrong. Somebody will always complain but you can't make everybody happy. I also don't think it's much different for the NFL than dealing with any other player doing something wrong such as running over a pedestrian, shooting themselves, drugs, or domestic violence. Seems most of the attention is on the player, not the league.
