That being said, more RAM will help compensate for slower processors, a slower bus, and slower HD in your perception of its everyday speed. If you feel comfortable doing so I would buy the RAM separately (from crucial or newegg) and install it yourself. The OS is far more responsive with more RAM and with a 5400rpm hard drive the extra RAM is worth it in my opinion.
Coding itself is not very intensive, but coders like to switch back and forth between apps often and that is where having more RAM will really help you out.
