How much does it cost to live in Albuquerque?

What's the typical cost of living in Albuquerque New Mexico? How much does real estate, education, groceries, insurance etc cost? How much is it compared to other states in the US?

According to a CNN Money poll and survey, in 2006 Albuquerque, New Mexico had a median family income of $51,925 per year. This is in contrast to some of the top cities who's average median income was $76,893. At the time median home prices were just under $200,000 and the income tax rate was 5.3%. The state income tax rates ranged from 5.3% for the highest bracket to 1.7% for the lowest income bracket. Auto insurance premiums averaged just over $2,000 per year, per vehicle, and sales tax was 6.75%. The city sees more clear days and less precipitation than the national average. The average age is 35 and 46% are married.

According to payscale.com Albuqurque, NM ranks at about the national average for housing costs annually and about 3% under overall cost of living expenses than the national average. Utilities scored a full 14% under the national average. Groceries were 5% less.

Albuquerque, is one of the leading growth centers in New Mexico and have been ranked 32nd largest city in America. Considered to be one of the senior cities in the United States, it's inhabitants number close to a million citizens, a melting pot of different cultures converged into one. Statewide, the cost of living is considered to be ideal for citizens looking for an alternative city in New Mexico. It's business environment is considered favorable compared to other states and it's economy is labeled as stable.

In terms of the cost of living index for year 2008 culled from the reports of Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER), Albuquerque have a cost of living index of 96.7 compared to the national average. Other similarly ranked cities have a cost of living index higher than the national average of 100, this cities include Phoenix, Arizona, Los Angeles, California, Denver, Colorado, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Portland, Oregon.
