Simplest way is to get an IPass when you cross over into Illinois.
The Road Ranger in South Beloit sells them. You set it up with an account tied to your bank credit card or debit card. They give you a transponder about the size of a pack of cigarettes that goes inside your windshield. The transponder does all the work.
Then it works in the following EZPass states like ours does: Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, New York. Apparently Ohio just joined-- finally.
"I-PASS is a prepaid toll collection system that saves motorists time and money on the road. Every toll lane on the system is equipped to accept I-PASS which can also be used on the Chicago Skyway, the Indiana Toll Road, and on any of the more than 20 U.S. tollroads where E-ZPass is accepted."
We've made the drive from Madtown to NYC about ten times in the last couple of years & wouldn't do it any other way.

Thanks for the long response--but unfortunately it doesn't actually answer my question. I actually know about IPass already. What I asked was specifically how much this itinerary costs.
