As of December 2008, and according to Delta's 10K, the total long term debt is 16,5 billion dollars. Up from 9 billion in 2007.
Debt is a major problem for Delta, specially during this harsh economical period, because it hurts its flexibility to reshuffle its balance sheet due to constraints with contractual obligations.
Will they resort to government help? I don't think any airline will go alone, they need a strong, united effort in order to get a "bailout" scheme such as the one the auto industry got.
