How much and what kind of violent weather does Cincinnati, Ohio have? Is it dangerous to be in an RV?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Having spent a large amount of time in Ohio, much of it in an RV, I can say that I have never felt like I was in any danger. I have experienced a tornado in Cincy, but had ample opportunity to seek shelter (my grandparents' basement!) prior to the tornado hitting. There are also early warning sirens, so you should not be taken by surprise. If you are in your RV when a tornado or the like seems to be approaching, you will be able to find safety.

Here are accurate weather reports to address your concerns:

Hurricane Ike did touch down through Cincinnati, although this was an exceptional case and bad storm in Sept. 2008.

Contact the place(s) you'll be keeping your RV and ask what are the worst storms they've ever had. Ask how you should prepare just in case.

Anytime there is severe weather, like a thunderstorm warning or tornado warning, regardless of what city your'e in, you want to take shelter in a sturdy structure. Being in a vehicle when there are high winds and ligtening can be dangerous.

Cincinnati's weather is pretty good. It gets some pretty strong severe Thunderstorms from the West, especially in the Spring and Summer months.

Cincinnati is not in tornado alley, so it doesn't get a ton of tornadoes. Fewer than 14 tornadoes a year for the entire state of Ohio.

If you are worried, you can get your cell phone to alert you when there is severe weather wherever you are. You set it up at the Weather Channel page and it texts you with warnings.
