The Lord of the Rings is an epic fantasy novel written by University of Oxford professor J. R. R. Tolkien In 1939 Tolkien released a Children’s Book called “The Hobbit”. He had originally written this for his children but after the success of the book he decided to write a sequel. The sequel turned into his epic trilogy, The Lord of The Rings, which is certainly not a children’s book.
The Lord of the Rings was written in stages between 1937 and 1949 and finally published as three volumes in 1953-1954. The three volumes are entitled The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Each volume is split into two “books” so technically there are six volumes. The Fellowship of the Rings contains “The Ring Sets Out”, and “The Ring Goes South”. The Two Towers contains “ The Treason of Isengard,” and “ The Ring Goes East”. The Return of the King is composed of “ The War of the Ring” and “ The End of the Third Age”.
