How many trees are cut down in the world every day? Please reference your sources. Would love link to a historical chart tracking this.

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Additional info on global deforestation in the link with historical charts. Looks like Brazil leads in this infamous race.

Whenever I see trees cut down in the name of development, it saddens me a lot and feel so helpless. Even thougth there are so many organizations against deforestation, this still goes on.

Human population is like a plague on this planet destroying everything.

I also came across this widget showing trees cut and houses built:

Nhlman, please let me inform you that many sites where forests are destroyed can no longer be replenished after the soil has been depleted of all nutrients. This means that many of the "forests" being replanted cannot survive. The forests that are replanted and DO survive also have their problems. These trees are identical. Trees of the same species. They are planted in organized rows the same exact distance from each other. There is absolutely no diversity. Animals can't make homes here because there's only one type of plant. A forest isn't just a set up. It's a way of life. And these tree's aren't doing anything besides taking the place of something that used to be prosperous and strong. But mentioning the fact that they filter the air is not even in question. Obviously if people don't think that cutting down a little forest isn't going to make a dent in our atmosphere, then there's no point in them arguing whether or not the little forest constructors replant will make a dent in the cleansing of our atmosphere.

I think it's very negligble. When the developers bull doze a few acres, they kill thousands of trees and drive all the animals out and just plant a few trees as part of the so called land scaping.

Nothing can be renewed if you spend/cut exponentially faster than you could save.

It's not easy to guess how many trees are cut down each year, yet approximately 3 to 6 billion. So that equates to 8 thousand to 17 thousand cut down each day.

3 billion to 6 billion trees per year according to the source listed below. Ouch!

"Now nearly 4 billion trees or 35% of the total trees cut around the world are used in paper industries on every continent."

Don't believe the 3-6 billion quote. It is wrong.
