I'm not sure if there's actually a set time frame as to when the balls are switched out. It probably depends on the weather conditions and how quickly the ball gets soaking wet or gunked up.

Good answer, but I would guess it's safe to say that it's much more frequent during the Super Bowl. The NFL is surely looking for an opportunity to create a few more souvenirs. :)
