How many times can you watch a movie you love before you start to get tired of it?

Does the magic of a truly great film start to fade as you watch it over and over? Do you notice new things that you haven't seen before? Are you afraid to ruin a film you like by watching it too many times?

This is a very interesting question. I personally agree with some other answers here, that if I wait a little bit between each viewing, I usually won't get tired of it. But sometimes I feel unsure about doing a TV show marathon with a show I own on DVD, because I get so much closer to the end of the series quicker. But, since there are so many episodes in a TV series, watching it all through will take time, thus leading to a long break in between watching the same episode twice.

I've watched Chocolat by Juliette Binoche countless of times. However, it becomes too much when I showed the movie to teach about diversity in class. I taught 6 classes so I have to watch the scenes 6 times in a row. I might not feel that bored if I watch it once every month or so. The same also happens when I show some scene from Glee episode 1 to 14 classes. I do understand why people are afraid that they ruin the movie by watching it too many times. It's better to pace it before you re-watch the movie.

Depends what movie and how close together the viewings are. I've watched my favorite movies (the Last Unicorn and Se7en) at least 100 times but I've been watching the last unicorn since I was 6. Sure if I watched a movie I loved 3-4 times in a row I'd loose interest, but if you watch a 20 year old movie once a year, its just as good every time.

My all-time favorite film is Excalibur, a campy 1970s rendition of the story of King Arthur, Lancelot, Guenevere and Merlin the mage. It was filmed on location in Ireland in spring, and is gorgeous. It is beautiful and magical to me. It doesn't hurt that Patrick Stewart has a minor role in the film, or that the actor who plays King Arthur looks a lot like my first real boyfriend.

The legend of King Arthur is my favorite story, and this film is my favorite version. It follows closely Sir Thomas Malory's written version of the Arthurian Legend, Le Morte D' Arthur.

I own the DVD and I watch it every year on my birthday. I surely could watch it more often than that, but I think you are onto something. Watching it more often would probably ruin it for me.

A truly great film, I never get tired of watching. Yes, I see new things all the time, I get to focus on different actors and scenes....for one of my favorite movies I actually spent time checking out the shoes, and costumes, but mainly shoes....it was great!

For example, I can watch the 5th Element over and over again, the actors never get tired nor does the story. I can watch Alien over and over again, the special effects, Ripley hehehe everything. I can watch old movies like It came from Outer Space over and over again too....the use of 'special effects' like smoke hehehe always get me...

I guess I'm a regular film buff ...the better the movie the more I want to see it!

I've been known to watch a movie I like 5-10 times in a row if I have the DVD. Then I will watch it again if I see it on TV. Some movies you see something new or different everytime you watch it. My husband likes to watch movies over again and pick out the flaws which really ticks me off. LOL

It is not so much how many times I see a movie I like, but rather how short of an interval I allow in between viewings. If I watch the same film repeatedly within a narrow time frame , no matter how much I may like it, I will lose some appreciation for it. As long as I allow some time to pass, say a few months, I can see a good film many times over.

"It's a Wonderful Life" comes to mind. I see that film during the Holiday Season and I never tire of it.

Most movies I can handle only watching once. I tend to get bored easily. I very seldom buy a movie because I know I will need to watch it more than once in order get the value out of it. I usually just rent a movie, watch it once and I'm done. :-)
