How many times a day should I stroke my kitty?
Every time I enter the kitchen she comes running, jumps on the counter and demands that I pet her.
Is there such a thing as too much petting?
I use a brush on her once a day... will I eventually thin out her hair?
Is there such a thing as over stimulation with cats, or is this just heavy petting?
How do you stroke your cat?

The long answer is based on my own scientific studies and the results of ongoing research conducted regarding this very thing over the course of many years. Based on my calculations, it takes approximately 462 strokes to keep the average p***y tamed. Stroking sessions can be performed once a day or broken up into multiple sessions. However, it is very important that when your kitty demands to be petted, you respond with the proper kind of stimulation that your cat desires.
For best results, use circular strokes in a clockwise motion when petting your kitty.
There is no such thing as too much petting, when it comes to satisfying your kitty, but you should allow her to recover fully from each session before petting her again. Brushing your kitty is fine, but you may want to consider a trim if her mane gets a little unruly.

M$I admit, I am one of those that does the bidding of my cat. But so does everyone else who comes into contact with her. :)
I thought this picture really sums up your last remark...

M$Hey Morris... I think I found a pole that might work!
There is never too much, I don't think--your kitty will let you know if you've petted just a little too heavily.
That being said, pet your kitty in just the perfect spot and you could hear some serious purring.
If the hair comes off any part of your kitty, that exposed skin will be much more sensitive, especially if she's never lost any hair before. She'll let you know if she doesn't want to be touched there.
PS: 462? This is like "Name that Tune." How about having the kitty purring in 100 strokes or less? Leaves room for over four and one half times the stroking in one shot.
Oy vey. Enjoy some artwork--"Jack in the Pulpit" by Georgia O'Keefe:

M$You cannot over comb them unless you are ripping out their hair.
When I used to go on business trips I had another cat that followed me like that and I was told it sat by the door for four days waiting for me one time.
The more time you spend with the cat the more it will stay with you. Inbetween eating and sleeping they like nothing more then to be petted. They actually think you are grooming them like when you see two cats that lick eachother clean.
If the cat is this attached I bet when you stoke the side of it's head your hand gets wet at the back side of it's mouth. This is because they have glands there and are claiming you.

I love this thread! Duen, you added the punch line that made me laugh aloud. :O)
@meyermv: Are you suggesting a Ménage à trois? My kitty looks ready to go! Anyone else? Hey @bunnyphuphu is that your kitty? She looks like she needs to be petted right away!
Thanks @bunnyphuphu for the tips! I found your question quite stimulating! LOL :)
By the way, shall I bring my kitty over to your place? I'm sure the kitty's will enjoy the petting. We could have a kitty petting party!
@ duen, can I bring my kitty too? :o)
I have no idea why pussy is censored in this post. I think it is perfectly clear to everyone here that we are in fact talking about cats.
Lmao!
I'm getting embarrassed by all this petting the kitty talk.
"mane gets a little unruly?" Oy vey. Different Kitties have different coats. From the really shaggy ones to the hairless, I think.
One thing's for damn sure: If it starts to itch & smell funny, it may need an anti-fungal.
