How many steps (on average) does it take to walk a mile?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The mile is 5280 feet. The average stride is 2.8 feet or so.
The easy thing to do is divide your stride into 5280 feet. That will tell you how many steps you have to take to travel 1 mile.

1 mile is about 2000 steps or about 2500 steps depending on your individual stride.

Wearing a pedometer is an easy way to track your steps. The average person's stride length is about 2.5 feet long, so it takes just over 2,000 steps to walk one mile. 10,000 is close to 5 miles.

However, these very much depend on the individual. Measure your own stride and compare it to a mile, which is 1,600 meters.
