How many state capitals are not the largest city by population in their state?
This is completely and totally random, for some reason I just thought of it and thought it would be interesting.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

By my count there are 33 states where the largest city and the capital city are not the same. Here is a list that provides the details:

That is interesting. The majority of the states have capitals that are not the largest cities. Cool find! Thanks.
That's funny @buddawiggi - your capital of NH reminds me of California's capital of Sacramento... they have a BIG campground right near the state buildings!

Here in NH our capital is Concord and that city is little more than a big campground on the highway with a couple supermarkets and the DMV... and if it wasn't for the DMV I doubt many NH residents could find Concord let alone say they had been there.
