Currently NBC airs only one daytime Soap Opera and that will be Days of Our Lives. Days of Our lives, first premiered on November 8, 1965. At one time or another NBC had at least two soaps operas airing in daytime at one time or another if not more. But when the network chose to drop the ax on the daytime soap Passions in 2007, Days of Our Lives became their only daytime soap opera.
The fact that NBC chose not to bring on another daytime soap to replace Passions led many to believe that the network was planning to get out of the soap business all together. However, NBC has since then renewed Days of Our Lives contract, and doesn’t seem to be dropping its only surviving soap any time in the near future.
