The Mid-Term elections saw quite the turnaround in the political landscape in Washington, DC. In the House of Representatives, 441 congressmen were up for reelection and of those, 236 Republicans were elected. Just 166 Democrats were elected to office, meaning that the Republicans will have a 242-192 advantage when the 112th congress convenes in January. This is of course the majority, meaning that the Speaker of the House has changed hands from Nancy Pelosi to Mark Boehner and the Republicans also have control over the various committee chairmanships and other top leadership positions like Majority Whip Eric Cantor.
In the Senate the Democrats narrowly held onto a majority meaning that Congress is now effectively split between the two parties making for an interesting next two years.
