As far as total numbers go, a recent technology blog, Ars Technica, stated in a recent article about why ad-blockers are killing them that about 40% of their users use an ad-blocking tool. It is however, important to remember that this is a site for the tech-savy.

M$yes, ive seen those download stats. i've also heard that even though there's been 73m downloads, the active daily users is around 15% of that number. lots to learn here.
Plugins for Firefox, like NoScript blocks ads too but it's not specifically written for it. So any stats might be skewed by the fact that the methods used to block ads by users may not be described as such (using the wrong tool for the job) even though the result of using the software is the same (and intended to be the same).
I think that Adblock Plus is the most popular adblocker, and it has 73,408,737 downloads from firefox's website.

I have a cocktail of ad blockers that was installed by a programmer friend...not even sure what's being used, but it works extremely well. :-)
I know one component is a program that tricks sites into expecting all ad content resides on my hard drive, and the result is that the ad doesn't show because the system looks for it in a place it doesn't reside.
@silverhammer and @pmacdon1, good to know your opinions in this. I think I'd have to look for the best ad blocking software now... thanks!
Mozilla estimates that there are 270 million users, so that's a lot of ad blockers. Google Chrome has Google toolbar's ad blocker built in. Most IE7 users also use Google Toolbar.
Today, using a browser without an ad blocker is so annoying that it isn't worth going online.
