17 people visited the South Pole before November 1956 when the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station was established. It has been staffed continuously since then. The station was originally designed to house 18 science and support personnel during the winter and 33 during the summer. It has since been expanded to house 50 scientists and support personnel in winter and up to 150 people during the summer.
1267 people have lived at the South Pole in Winter between 1957 and 2009.
The first person to reach the South Pole were Norwegian Roald Amundsen on December 14, 1911.
In summary, thousands of people have visited the South Pole.

Recently the summer average of visitors has been 250, some of those are repeat visitors. Combined with the information I provided above, I would estimate between 5000 -8000 people have visited the South Pole.

I was looking for a total of visitors, including summer visitors. If there is no available data, then an informed estimate will do.
