Over all I believe 5 is the standard amount of people aloud in the Yaris, however if you were able to fit 5 people in there, the smaller back seats prove to have not very much room in deed, almost resembling a sports car with backseats there just for decoration, so to speak.

Front Seats
While reviewers agree that the front seats in the Yaris are generally comfortable, a few complain about the awkward driving position. If you're looking for an ideal driving position regardless of your stature, check out the Volkswagen Jetta. You'll be paying about $5,000 more for its cushy interior, but it could be worth it.
• "The seats are not generously sized but provide good support." -- Consumer Guide
• "The front seats have supportive, deeply dished backs; but the bottom cushions are flat and short, so long-legged drivers may not enjoy optimum comfort and lower-body support." -- New Car Test Drive
• "In any Yaris, the driving position tends to be arms-out/legs-in by virtue of a steering wheel mounted far ahead and pedals situated well back." -- Iguida.com
Rear Seats
Most compact cars are not known for their spacious or comfortable back seats and the Yaris is no exception, particularly for those with longer legs. If a roomy rear cabin is important to you, check out the Volkswagen Rabbit, which has what reviewers say are some of the most comfortable seats in its class. Be aware, though, that you'll be paying a $4,000 premium for that extra comfort.
• "Spacious for the car's compact exterior dimensions, though taller riders will want more headroom and legroom. Three people will fit in the back, but the cabin is too narrow for long trips." -- Consumer Guide
• "The rear seats in the Sedan and Liftback are adequate to the task of hauling passengers over short distances, but the Liftback offers the advantage of a recline feature that increases the seatback angle from 10 degrees to 28 degrees." -- New Car Test Drive
• "There's just no getting past these cars' short wheelbase, however. The long of leg can't really stretch-out anywhere, and few adults will have enough knee room in back unless the front passengers slide well forward." -- Iguida.com
• "The Yaris Liftback interior provides roominess that belies its exterior dimensions. The comfortable cabin provides rear seating for three with headrests in all seating positions." -- FinChannel.com

Officially, the answer is five people. However, I had to actually drive one of these things once and I was a pretty unhappy person (the dealership loaned me one). I'm used to some of the largest cars (not SUVs, just cars) that money can buy, so the Yaris felt absolutely tiny. The center console is so thin that the knobs have to be stacked vertically - there isn't even room for them to go beside one another. If I was to honestly answer your question, this car is big enough for one person. Not two. Definitely not five! I suppose adults do venture into the back seat of the Yaris from time to time, but I'd never ever ever ever want to try it. From the drivers seat, it's possible to just about touch the back window with your hand.

No offense to Yaris owners. Once you get used to the dimensions, I imagine the car would be a lot of fun. I just couldn't handle it.

The Toyota Yaris can fit 5 people. If you say average size people, between 5 feet-5'8" feet tall, weighing at an average of 100-170lbs., it is easy to fit 5 people. But if you try to fit in 6 -7 feet tall people or who weighs over 200lbs, you may have difficulty fitting in 4 people. Now, fitting 5 people is different when you actually drive the Yaris. As I mentioned before, the "average" size person, the Yaris may have a little difficulty when climbing a hill, speeding up or joining a slalom race. If you plan to go outdoors and go to a high altitude, with gears and heavy backpacks, I advise just getting 2 passengers. Racing the Yaris will be best with just 1 passenger, to balance the front end. For speeding race or drag racing, with just a quarter mile to run, only the driver is needed to get the full potential of the car.
The Yaris has standard seat belts for 5 five people namely the driver, front passenger and 3 passengers seated at the back. It also comes with power windows both front and back doors. It also has a folding rear bench seat. It has a liftback luggage cover and 2 cup holders in front and 1 at the back. Overall at a price of $12,605, it is an affordable vehicle, has good fuel mileage and best of all, easy to find a parking space.
