How many of you users do a short search of Mahalo Answers before asking a question?

I was giving serious consideration to starting a new blog. I've used Wordpress and SqaureSpace before and wasn't overly enthused with them.

I did a search this morning: http://www.mahalo.com/answers/search?q=blogging+software to see what others have asked before and actually came back slightly depressed - I found that half the questions weren't answered.

Do you do a search before asking questions on Mahalo Answers? And yes, I did search for that question too: http://www.mahalo.com/answers/search?q=search+before+asking+question :)

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Don't be dismayed by the old unanswered questions. It looks like they may be artifacts from the early Twitter imports, which brought lots of new messages into the system. It would be nice if folks searched Mahalo Answers by key terms related to their Mahalo Pages, and then attempted to answer. It can help drive page activity when answers include in-links. It is part of my page marketing strategy.

There are lots of experts on blogging who are active here these days. Turnaround for Mahalo Answers should be much better. There are many Mahalo Pages about blogs and blogging. Many of the pages could use an active page manager.

I probably should do that, but I don't.

I think the point of having a question and answer site like this is that you don't HAVE to search to find out if something similar has already been posted. If you can do that then you may as well do a Google search and find out the answer to your question by yourself (when I say "you" or "your" I am talknig about people in general, not you personally) ;)

You're right. It can be pretty darn hard to find even my own previous questions and answers when I want to refer back!

Even though that would probably make sense, I dont. I think Mahalo needs an easier way to identify or search such questions in order for that method to become popular. Also everybody likes an answer to their own question.

I don't usually ask a lot of questions. But I do a small search in Mahalo when I answer some questions, if I have a memory of that question been asked and answered before.

For example :

A this question was asked today : How do I upload a pic onto Twitter from my cell?

I did a quick search on this Topic : Search

I selected this question and gave my own answer to the previous question asked today using the information from the answer. :)

Generally, I do so that I don't waste my time or anyone else's. I have to admit though that after being on the computer all night (doing computer maintenance work and also logging onto Mahalo), my brain fritzed and I asked my last question without looking first to see if it had already beeen answered. Many apologies!

I must admit that I don't do that and it's a good idea. No reason to ask a question that has already been asked and answered previously. It makes sense to do that.
