How many massive black holes have been observed in the Universe?

How many stellar units are these black holes?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Massive black holes are thought to exist at the center of many/most/all galaxies. Let's define "massive" as >100,000 solar masses.

Sagittarius A at the center of our own run-of-the-mill galaxy is thought to be 4,000,000 solar masses.

If all galaxies have a massive black hole at their center, that means there are probably a minimum of 250,000,000,000 massive black holes in the universe.

How many have been directly observed: none.

How many do we have very good evidence for (other than the obvious presence of a galaxy): a handful.
