How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to Purdue University, it takes 252 licks (average between 20 volunteers) or 364 by a licking machine. Variation in pop thickness, tongue surface, and pressure can all play a factor in possible outcomes.

Other Studies:
University of Michigan - 411 licks (licking machine)
Swarthmore School (junior high) - 144 licks (human volunteers)
University of Cambridge - 3481 licks (widely sited, but no article found)

How many licks to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?

That depends on:
1. The length of your tongue
2. The angle of your lick.
3. The moisture content of your saliva.
4. The persistence of patience.
