How many different sizes of baking pans do you need to get started making cakes?

The truth is you don’t need much to start baking cakes! I speak from experience since I live in a teeny tiny apartment and cook and bake with a portable gas stove and mini toaster oven. All you really need is a couple mixing bowls, a whisk, a rubber spatula, a Pyrex baking pan, cast iron pan, or any other oven-proof pan, a sieve, and measuring cups and spoons. For cooking what you need is a good knife, a cutting board, mixing spoons, a metal spatula, a frying pan (this can be the same cast iron pan used for baking), a soup pot, and a blender.
Cooking on a gas stove is much more convenient because it’s easy to tell how high or low the flame is. Things can burn really easily on electric stoves since you can really never tell if the ¨low¨ setting is really ¨low¨.
The most important thing is that you’re creative and that you’re having fun cooking!
