How many different means do you have for people to contact you?

I have five email accounts, two phone numbers and one mailing address. ... how much is too much?

Tip for best answer: M$2.31
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

I have 11 email accounts, 2 mobile numbers (one via carrier and one Google Voice) as well as regular communication through Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn as well as many other sites. I also use Skype and Google Chat on a regular basis.

However, all is monitored and interacted with via three main locations:

Email via Google Apps Account in browser: All accounts (either via POP or forwarding) are routed through my personal Google Apps account.

Social via Hootsuite in browser: I don't receive any bacn (event notifications) so I rely on daily use of Hootsuite for all Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn responses.

Chat: All of my chat accounts (either via Gchat or Facebook) happens through Adium for Mac. The only computer communication mechanism I can't use it with is Skype which is not supported. In addition, I'm also on IRC all day for inter-office communication at work at Mahalo - I use Linkinus for that.

- - -

I would say that if you're a casual computer user and aren't aware (or can't configure) the tools available than you can easily become overwhelmed. However, it's fairly easy to manage everything if you take advantage of today's technology.

I think if you can't monitor them easily, it's too much.

I have two phone numbers (home and cell). I don't want to have to have everyone learn a new one, so that's why I don't have Google Voice. I also don't want every single person who has my home phone to have my cell number. I get no sales calls on my cell, although I've had the number a decade.

I have roughly 7 email accounts. I have one major account that 4 more feed into, so I don't have to check them. I also have two other accounts I use for different purposes.

I also have a bunch of social media accounts where I can get messages. I use Tweetdeck to monitor them.

I'm guessing most people aren't in the same position I am, though. I volunteer on a couple of boards; I homeschool and am on e-lists for that; I have a couple of website businesses and work online a lot. So I have to be connected.

I am way too connected; Telephone, Fax, Answer phone, Cell Phone, E-mail, Snail Mail and Internet. My Internet connections include Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter plus my Examiner RVing column.

I think we’re way too overloaded as a society and it’s ironic that this internet experience is dubbed “social networking” when – in face to face situations – more and more people seem to be losing their people skills and appear bereft of any redeeming social graces (especially here in Los Angeles).

I think it's not worth it to have too many contacts. Two phone numbers is normal today. Home and cell. Two e-mail accounts, the extra one I use for sign up stuff and unimportant things) I have Skype, for family and close friends only. And that is enough for me. Having too many e-mail accounts is just extra work deleting the mails.Don't worry, people will contact you if they need to, with less. (forgot normal home address, as well)

If it's working for you, why would it ever be a problem? I have an email, a cell phone number, a po box address and a work number. That works for me

I have three email accounts, two work email accounts, three different instand messenger accounts, a skype account, a cell phone, a home phone, mailing address, and I feel that I need all of these since I use all of them. Some people only need a simple number in order to have those that are close to them get in contact with them, and then some people have different work situations that require them to have personal and work contacts. Yes, there are a lot more ways for people to get in contact with one another now a day, but technology has become a large part of our lives now, and in order to keep up, you have to roll with the changes or be left behind. There is no right or wrong answer on what is too much, I feel that depends on each person and their individual situation.

Well, this is definately different for every individual. It all depends on what your needs and capabilities are. I have 5-7 e-mail accounts, but I only actively use two of them. I have 3 phone numbers and 3 addresses. Sometimes people need different ways of communication and also different devices for different types of communication. It is sometimes necessary to have business communication that is seperate from personal. As a matter of fact, most people do have to seperate that out.

Face to face is another communication type that you have that is different for different people in different professions. Some people have lots and lots of face to face communication while others are almost all telephone. My brother has a job where that he has to make as many as 135+ phone calls a day. This is just on the business phone. He also sends tons of text messages every day.

Throw in Facebook Twitter etc., and it begins to get to the point of communication overload. It seems like we are getting to the point of 24/7 communication. There is a website (www.3rdi.com) where this guy streams a pic of whereever he is and whatever he is doing every 60 seconds. He has a camera on the back of his head. You should visit that site to see what I am talking about. He constantly provides communication.

In my humble opinion, we are getting to the point of taking communication a bit too far. Technology has allowed for more insight into peoples lives than ever before. Actually, another great example of raised technological communication is WikiLeaks. The whole world is coming together one communicative step at a time.

Oh, it looks too much for me. i like a simple life, i think if friend put you in their heart, one or 2 communication tools is enough. as to ordinary, i think one mail, one mobile phone is enough, if have one facebook is better, simple is living, which would not make you look crazy :)

I have Facebook, Myspace, 3 emails, cell phone, had two mailing address', IM messengers, many accounts I have signed up for. After a certain point you start to forget to check them. I believe it is up to every person to decide what is to much. Me, I can only handle a few, but I know others that can multitask non-stop.

believe me you don't need all these things ,your life will be like a house with 10 doors lead to the same point ,a waste of time and money , you need to make your life more simple .or you will be for the rest of you life attached to it.
