Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The average for woman with a 28 day cycle is to count 14 days from the first day of having a period. You start counting the day you start, not the day after. However, some woman have longer cycles than 28 days and that will make the date of ovulation different. The best thing to do is use a calender system. Track the periods. Also during ovulation there will be a change in the discharge of the vagina. It will be more like egg whites. You should be able to notice this change. You can also use a basal thermometer to find out the time of ovulation. This will be a slight increase in your body's temperature during ovulation. However, sometimes this might be too late to become pregnant, but it will help you track your day of ovulation and get more accustomed to your own personal system.

So to answer your questions ... How many days after your period can you get pregnant? The answer is depends on your system, it might be any day.

If you are trying to avoid pregnancy you should not have unprotected sex. Some people efficiently use the calendar method as a form of birth control once they have their systems down... such as people who can't use contraceptives for personal or religious reasons. But it really should only act as back up for condoms or birth control pills as no birth control is 100%.

If you are trying to get pregnant, use the calendar method, the discharge indicator and the basal to determine your own personal ovulation... which for a 28 day cycle will usually be about 14 days after the first day of a period. There will be about 2 to 3 days of fertile time there.
