How many colleges are in Boston?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Boston is a city that is peppered with colleges and universities, many of which are very prestigious. In metropolitan Boston, which includes Boston proper as well as the neighboring cities and towns, there is a total of 52 institutions of higher learning.

Included in that tally are 7 junior colleges, 14 colleges primarily geared towards issuing baccalaureate and master’s degrees, 8 research universities, and 23 institutions of special focus.

The majority of the institutions that are on the list are private and non-profit. Only 5 of the institutions are public. Of which, 4 are run by the state of Massachusetts, and 1 is run by the city of Quincy.

Some of the institutions on the list include the following:

Andover Newton Theological School
Bay State College

Boston University
Brandeis University
