How many cars are there in North America?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

http://www.theautochannel.com/articles/2004/10/13/251312.html reports that according to Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/) an estimated 257.8 million vehicles were on the roads in North America as of 1/1/2003. Of those, 154 million were passenger cars. According to http://www.bts.gov/publications/national_transportation_statistics/html/table_01_11.html there were 135,669,897 passenger cars registered in the US in 2003. The latter source states there were 135,932,930 passenger cars registered in the US in 2007.
From these numbers we can infer the growth of passenger cars in the US from 2003 to 2007 was an anemic 0.19%. Extrapolating to 2010 we can estimate a total increase of about 0.4% from 2003 to 2010. Applying this increase to the estimate of 154 million passenger cars in North America as of 2003, we can estimate a North American total of ~155 million passenger cars as of 2010.
Note that this does not include e.g. pickup trucks and other vehicles considered "commercial". If you're interested in those numbers, the above sources address such as well. Applying the same methodology we reach a number of about 300 million total vehicles in N. America as of 2010.
