How many balls can be used in dodgeball?

The official rules state that as many as six balls can be used in dodgeball, three on each side. The should be inflated but not overinflated. Traditionally rubber balls are used but sometimes soccer balls are used in school. When I was growing up, dodgeball was played in school on a circular court. The players throwing the ball were around the outside of the circle with a few people inside the circle. If the ball hits you without you catching it, then you are out. If you catch the ball then the person throwing the ball is out.
We played a modified version of this in high school called bombardment. It is basically the same game but played on a basketball court and each team had to stay on their side of half court. The team that loses all of their players first loses the game. We used several balls in bombardment, up to 5 or 6 at a time.

WOW. When I was in school, we used one ball for the game of dodgeball. But upon looking up the official rules of the game according to NADA (National Amateur Dodgeball Association) I am amazed. The official rules state that six balls are used in this game. They start out with three on each side. Each team has six players on the field and can have up to four more players as substitutes if they are needed. Another major difference I found from my school days as opposed to the official game, is that the official games are timed. They are given up to three minutes to win. If no one has won by that time, the team with the most persons left is the winner. We always played until one team got out the entire other team. The official balls are 8.25 inch rubber coated foam ball
