You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It depends on your state. DUIs stay on record in all states for a long time, but some allow for the record to be eventaully removed while others keep them on for an indefinite amount of time. Here is a law article that talks about DUIs and records-including trying to expunge one: http://www.tandvlaw.com/articles/driving-records/ Some states have laws against expungement for alcohol related crimes.

Hello!
Having a DUI conviction on your record makes it difficult to acquire car insurance for a reasonable rate. It can also make things complicated when it comes to a job.
A DUI is never automatically removed from your record. One option may be to have the charge expunged. An expungement is a legal process where they remove a crime from your public record. To do this, it would be best to consult a lawyer who specializes in the area. An experienced attorney will know the process.
Generally, your discussion will take place with the Department of Motor Vehicles and the criminal court system.
Eventually, a DUI conviction does become less prominent on your record. This is because with most background checks done on an individual, only the last 2-3 years are reviewed.
