How long should the average business plan be?Looking to open a restaurant, I have seen 15-30 page examples. Anyone have a good example?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It depends on situation and context. Try to understand what is the magnitute of detail that is expected. When you are approaching say, a VC firm or an angel investor,. keep it short, focused and sharp. Few pages could be ok.
A statistical average could be somewhere 20-25 pages.
Btw, check the source, there is a specific article about restaurant business plans and how to write one.

A better way to measure a business plan then number of pages is the readability and summarization of the plan. A good business plan should give a good idea of its main content even if the reader is skimming the page. Format, headings, white space and illustrations can be included to liven up the business plan. The right length can depend on the nature and purpose of the plane. Some things to consider are whether it will consider descriptions of the company and management, and executive summary, detailed research, plans, drawings and blueprints. Limiting a plan to a certain number of pages can lead to making the plan worse and not better.

You can do what is called a summary business plan that is anywhere from 2 to 15 pages long.
Here's a guide we recently published on how to write a summary business plan.
