How long should I wear a pair on contact lenses for a given day?
When I first started wearing contacts many years ago, my eye doctor suggested that I not wear contacts any longer than 12 hours a day and even try to take a day off every week or so. Has the technology in contact lenses changed enough that this is no longer the case or is this still a good idea?

No, it's pretty much the same. Except my doctor recommended to me not to ever wear contacts lenses for more than 8 hours. He also told me never to sleep in them. Even though contacts have improved and the eye receives more air, they are still not meant for extended wear. Even, if they say so. I wore contact lenses for over 10 years. I can no longer wear them unless it's just a day here or there. If I wear contacts two days in a row, 8 hours each day and even wear a new, daily pair, my eyes get severely irritated. I have very sensitive and bad eyes. I am sure more people, without my problems can wear them some longer.
According to a source I found online, it is said that most users can wear contacts for 12 to 14 hours. The source goes on to say that over 16 hours, the eyes have been deprived of too much oxygen to be healthy. This affects the blood vessels of the eyes in a very bad way. Overnight use can result in other problems.
