How long should I wait to walk a chihuahua after she eats?

I am dog sitting for a friend who is out of town for a few days, and I am a cat owner who knows little about dogs. I know I should take her out somewhat soon after feeding so that she can relieve herself, but how long should I wait?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi Nana!

As an expert in being a Chihuahua mommy... I'd say anytime after 15 to 20 minutes should be fine for taking them out for their special walk. That's enough time to let everything settle. After about 15 or 20 minutes she'll probably be showing you signs that she wants to go out. Just don't wait longer than an hour and you'll be fine.

Of course if you're taking care of a puppy... it could be sooner with those super fast metabolisms!
Just a distance of a block or so is usually more than enough time to get my girl to do her 1 and 2.

Happy house sitting!

Until she is scratching at the door would be my guess for the latest. Why do you have to wait at all? If your sitting there anyway take the dog for a walk.

I would want to wait to make sure the food has gone through the dog's system so that she can "go." Otherwise she may need a walk an hour later.
